Have you ever found a kind of exercise that kept you longing for more? Even 5minutes after you’ve just finished a workout, just catching your breath again… you can’t wait to do it again?
For me, I found this in CrossFit. Since starting CrossFit almost 9 years ago, my relationship with sports and exercise changed. I’ve gone from wanting to lose weight, to wanting to grow stronger, to seeing my gym as a place to hang out with my community.
A few weeks ago, my local gym hosted an in-house competition. A throwdown. I went to watch, cheer and photograph the event.
Crossfit Throwdown – October 2022
This friendly in—house competition was the biggest I’ve ever seen at Connect. There are around 250 members and 99 of those took part.
In teams of 4, the athletes had to compete over 4 workouts from cardio to weightlifting and gymnastics movements. It was loud, busy, intense and the energy was buzzing. So much so that when I got home after 5 hours of shooting, I had to take a 2hour nap to recover from the morning. And I didn’t even take part in the workouts.
Anyway, here are some of my favourite photos from the day…
The impact CrossFit and this community has had on my physical and mental well-being is immense. And I am not an exception – CrossFit is more than a sport. Some call it a cult (ah, those haters). But anybody who’s tried it can verify how much of an impact this sport can have.
I’m currently working on a promo film strategy for my local gym and can’t wait to share more about this with you soon. It’s so much fun and an honour to put two of my passions together to create something really powerful. So please stay tuned.
