I just got back from spending 3 days in Barcelona on a street photography trip with 9 other photographers and I loved every minute of it. I made 8 new friends – all super-talented wedding photographers – ate the best tapas (thanks to our impromptu tour guide Jack), had lots of wine, enjoyed the sun and the spring-like temperatures and even managed to take a few photos. The goal was to improve my street photography skills and while I ended up with some shots that I really like, I realised I’ve got quite a bit to learn still. So hopefully this trip was just one of many more to come in the future.
I’ve never been to Barcelona before so I didn’t really know what to expect but I soon realised that this city is very photogenic. So many photo opportunities and interesting things and people to see. Since we were 10 photographers, we split up during the day and explored different areas individually. I think my favourite part was probably an area on the beach, which my friend Anna jokingly kept calling “muscle beach”. It’s an outdoor gym which is free to use for anybody and proved to be very popular with super-fit men who all seemed to have lost their shirts. Next to muscle beach, there were loads of surfers and fishermen and closer to the promenade you could find the older generation reading the papers or playing domino.
Somewhere in town we found another amazing spot – full of skaters who loved posing for our cameras and seemed to be happy to show us their mad skills. And in between, the harsh sunlight and dark shadows made the streets of the old town amazing photo spots to play with.
I took about 1000 photos and here are a few of my initial favourites…
